500 Ancient Greek Places+ 9th Edition
That is an ever-growing list of ancient Greek places, where ruins are visible from the air. In almost every case, at least something of the Greek presence is visible, but occasionally not. This list spans the Minoan and Mycenaean periods up to the end of the Hellenistic age. No Roman places are represented. Also included are the sites of various contemporary cultures which were moderately to heavily Hellenized, such as the Lycians, Carians, and Pisidians.

Here is the complete list of places:

Some of those places were as easy as entering the coordinates from wikipedia into google earth, but some of them have been really hard to track down. In those cases I have to do anywhere from a little research to quite a bit.
But you know I love it. Somebody else got to discover these places in person, but finding them on google earth is...the next best thing? Well it's fun, anyway. :p
And I don't think I'm even halfway finished. I just found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_archaeological_sites_by_country
I'm at 209 places right now, and I haven't even STARTED on that lot yet!
Good thing it's a labor of love...

Sorry for updating again so soon, it usually takes me a much longer time to compile these, and even if it doesn't, I generally wait at least until it's moved from the front page to update. It's these guys' fault: Uber motherlode of Lycian, Cilician, Pamphilian, and Carian places. Yell at them. And please tell them they are amazing for me. I'm going to bed.
Oh, and I'll update the key and main images when I wake up.

Still, with the way it is now you can sort of get an idea, though not to such an extent. A large enough number of Minoan and Mycenaean places were long lost before the rise of Greek culture, so they can represent themselves. Not so with the regions of Asia Minor, however. Those changed quite often, by war or treaty, and it's sometimes hard to ascribe only one region to some places. Look at Kibyra, for instance. I still honestly have no clue whether it should ultimately be considered pisidian, Carian, Lydian, or Phrygian. Apparently it's been all of them at one point or another.
Not to mention the fact that the vast majority of Asia Minor had become Persian, and had remained that way until Alexander the Great.
But I agree that an entire series of KMZ files, one for each epoch, would be amazing to see.
