Experience archaeology in the Caribbean...

mdg

Applications are being accepted for volunteers to participate in archaeological excavations at the site of Argyle 2, located approximately 20 minutes drive from the capital of Kingstown, on the island of St. Vincent in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

No experience is necessary!  Just bring your enthusiasm and passion for adventure!

The 2011 excavation is scheduled extend from January 9 to February 5, 2011, with opportunities for volunteers to come for one (or more) of four one-week programs.  Fees for the program, excluding airfare, are $1,795 (Canadian).  This includes accommodations, meals, transportation within the island and a Saturday boat tour of St. Vincent, which will take you to one of the most beautiful places in the world, The Falls of Baleine, as well as the film set of The Pirates of the Caribbean, with potential of seeing dolphins and whales along the ride.

Excavation will take place at the site of Argyle 2, where preliminary survey revealed numerous postholes, some of which appear to be in a linear pattern, as well as two burials.  Artifacts identified on the surface include ceramics, stone tools, beads and food remains, indicating that occupation spans from the Saladoid period to Colonial and present times.  This means that Argyle 2 is potentially close to 2,000 years old.
