Poor Housing Options

I recently left a job with the Forest Service in Utah. The area has recently become inundated with temporary workers due to a recent natural gas/oil boom. Renters, Leasers, and Owners, taking advantage of the situation, are demanding outrageous sums ($1500 for a floppy two-bedroom) for rent.
It is hard to attract quality people on a diminished pay grade when lodgings are so expensive.
So I was wondering if anyone else has felt similar pressure. How do you mitigate this situation?

Leave is one way. Commute is what folks in suburbs do. I've known folks in our biz rent or buy an RV and camp, socking away the per diem and savings on rent.

You simply cannot work a job where your expenses exceed your income. You have few choices. Your employer must pay more or you must leave.
While camping is an option, and it may be exciting for many young folks, it is much more stressful on your body than a comfortable room with hot showers. Camping is not an acceptable option in any industry, and if expected it should be well compensated for.
