Thanks for the post Jennifer. I would post more information here but I am never quite sure where the line is between helpful information and blogspam is. I appreciate it when you make the call.

Dwarmour- glad you find it useful. do you have suggestions or information you would like to see? I am always trying to get feedback.

Anyone else who might be reading this please feel free to comment as well about anything I can do better.

Doug, feel free to post away here. I always find your blog posts to be relevant, and I think that most here would agree.

I especially like the number crunching you've done regarding the various archaeology positions posted to Shovelbums. I started a similar project with the employment posts to archaeologyfieldwork.com a few months ago, but unfortunately got sidetracked and didn't keep it up. Perhaps I will eventually have some data from this website to share with you. I was actually holding off deleting old posts in the jobs forum for the time being for this purpose (perhaps to the chagrin of some employers with old ads up, so I should probably get crackin' soon!).

BTW Doug, someone just recently referenced your blog in a message on the LinkedIn Freelance Cultural Professionals group. Thought you'd like to know. I am certainly interested in finding more stats about how many folks are actually employed within CRM as a whole.

I'm not sure if this link will work, as I believe you have to be a member of the group to view posts: link

Glad you mention that. I am in the process of doing just that. Got sidetracked as well but now I am back and up to mid-July of your posts. I hope to have everything caught up in the next few weeks. I am also combining it with the few posts on Shovelbums that do not overlap (unbiased data report- you have a much bigger selection then SB). At the end of each year I figure I will do some state of archaeology posts/reports.

yeah I have seen so general numbers thrown out there 1500 academics 12-15000 CRMers.

On the list to do is get exact numbers from federal gov archs. (shouldn't be too hard)

and to figure out a way to get reliable numbers of private sector CRMers (that is going to be tricky)

I'll let you know what I find out

Also, if you would like to collaborate on the whole job postings research and what people are looking for when they hire please let me know. I do not mean to upstart your project with mine

Hi Doug. Sure, I would love to collaborate. I'm in the process of determining exactly what info to record from the employment listings (ideally as much as possible). I would be happy to share the data from AFW as well. Hoping to start this project sometime next week. I will be sending you an e-mail with what I have, as I'd love to hear your feedback.
